Welcome to the 2026 school year! We look forward to seeing everyone's relaxed smiles after the summer break. 

Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to the new families joining our community. We are all united by our unique school and bilingual education, and wanting the very best for our children—we value and celebrate our multicultural diversity.  

This newsletter contains information about upcoming important dates, events, and enrolments for extra-curricular classes.

You're invited!

Meet & Greet Welcome Evening
Drinks, Nibbles & Info
Friday 6 February, 5:30pm - 8:00pm
Forestville Community Hall
28 Melwood Ave, Forestville (behind the RSL)


To kick off the 2026 social calendar, everyone is invited to catch-up with friends and welcome new families. 

This event is a mixer for all KHPS families, co-hosted by FANS and the P&C. 

Please bring some drinks and nibbles to share. Children are welcome, and parents are responsible for supervising their children. There is an outdoor enclosed play area at the venue.

There will be a short presentation in English to learn more about FANS and the P&C. 

We look forward to seeing you there!

We’re excited to kick off the 2026 school year and another fantastic year of the FANS French Bilingual Program at Killarney Heights Public School.

Important dates

Monday 2 February - First day of school for all students
      Drop-off from 8:30am | Class starts at 9:00am

Wednesday 4 February - First Intensive French Before School class for Anglophone stream students

      Drop-off from 7:50am | Class starts at 8:00am

      This class is optional and requires additional enrolment.

Thursday 5 February - First Intensive French Before School class for Francophone stream students

      Drop-off from 7:50am | Class starts at 8:00am

      Compulsory class for all Francophone stream students, from Year 1 to Year 6

Friday 6 February - Meet & Greet Welcome Event, co-hosted with the P&C

Monday 9 February - All other classes begin
      Le Petit Sportif, L'Etude French Homework Club, and High School classes, will begin this week.

New Families Welcome Pack

It's nearly your first day at KHPS! Welcome to the community.


All Kindy students will attend a scheduled Best Start Assessment, as per the school's email. All other new students will meet at the KHPS office, as per the school's email.

Bilingual Program Fees 2025

As a bilingual program within a public school, we are committed to maintaining an affordable, quality bilingual program. We aim to make bilingualism accessible to all families, and our program fees are very competitive compared with independent and international schools. 

The annual program fees of $1670 for the Anglophone stream, and $4195 for the Francophone stream cover teacher salaries for the academic year.

Please carefully read the general terms and conditions.


Intensive French Before School classes (IFBS) 

Intensive French Before School (IFBS) classes are offered by the FANS bilingual program.

These classes are an integral part of the program for Francophone stream students and optional for Anglophone stream students.

The IFBS classes start in Year 1 and continue through Year 6.

IFBS for Francophone stream students

The mandatory IFBS classes for Francophone stream students are on Monday and Thursday mornings for all Francophone stream students for Years 1 - 6.

Dropoff from 7:50am
Class time is 8:00am to 8:45am
, allowing for a 15-minute break before the 9am school bell. 

 The IFBS classes consolidate notions in grammar and conjugation and are an integral part of the Francophone stream bilingual program.

First class on Thursday 5 Feb. 2026

A Kindy "garderie" operated by FANS is available during IFBS, Monday and Thursday from 8:00am to 8:30am, for the Kindy siblings of older students attending IFBS. 


Note: There are no IFBS lessons on the first Monday of any Term due to staff Development Days.

IFBS for Anglophone stream students  

The optional IFBS classes for Anglophone stream students are on Wednesday mornings for Anglophone stream students for Years 1 - 6.

Dropoff from 7:50am
Class time is 8:00am to 8:45am
, allowing for a 15-minute break before the 9am school bell. 

These optional classes reinforce and deepen students' French language knowledge, and require an additional enrolment to the bilingual program.

The annual cost is $520, invoiced following your regular invoicing schedule (annually or quarterly).

Le Petit Sportif - Bilingual 
after-school sports classes 

Le Petit Sportif offers fun and engaging bilingual multi-sports classes for children from Kindy to Year 3, with a supportive environment led by experienced bilingual sports coaches.

Instructions are given in French & English. Translations are provided as needed to ensure everyone is involved and having fun. 

Coaches lead a rotation of a variety of team sports and active games involving skills such as ball handling, running, jumping, throwing, catching, kicking, dribbling, balance and flexibility. 

Good sportsmanship is key, and all sessions involve building skills in listening to and following instructions, fairness, turn taking, and teamwork. 

📅 When: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 

⏰ Time: 3:00 PM – 4:45 PM

📍 Where: Killarney Heights High School (KHHS) indoor hall

L'Etude French Homework Club

To support students with their weekly French homework and lighten the workload at home, FANS offers L’Etude French Homework Club. Sessions are led by a Teacher of French and students are organised into small groups.  


Francophone stream students
Monday or Thursday, 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Anglophone stream students
Monday, 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Enrolments are on a first come, first served basis and class numbers are capped to optimize learning in a small group environment.

High School Extracurricular Classes 2025

Boost your teen’s French this year!
FANS offers after-school French classes in Forestville for high school students – improve language skills, support school success, and open doors to travel, study, and career opportunities.

DELF Exam Preparation Classes
FANS has been leading DELF exam preparation classes for many years and offers several classes for the A2, B1 and B2 DELF Junior exams, for Anglophone and Francophone stream students.

The DELF is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education, via France Education International.

This diploma is internationally recognised, is valid for life, and opens a vast array of opportunities to study and live in French-speaking countries around the world.

History Workshop

This exciting workshop focuses on introducing students to French history through conversation, films, documentaries, and current events.

In 2026, students will learn about the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, the early French Republics and Colonisation.

L'Esprit critique - News & Current Affairs
This workshop develops students' critical thinking skills by discussing the world we live in.

Topics discussed will include news and current affairs — past and current conflicts, geopolitics, social issues, and events that are impacting our world.

Alliance Française
French Film Festival (AF FFF)

This annual event is coming to Sydney from 4 March to 9 April, showcasing French language films from around the world in cinemas across Australia. 

As a long-time partner of the Alliance Française in Sydney, FANS will once again be organising group discounted tickets at Roseville Cinemas for several showings. Gather your friends and head to the cinema en français, with English subtitles.

The schedule and tickets will be released on 5 February, so stay tuned for an email announcing the special FANS member discounted tickets!

Nature - Pour une reconciliation 

FANS Exclusive Cinema Screening Event

Thursday 26 Feb 2026 – 7pm
Roseville Cinemas

Don't miss this exclusive FANS screening of the film Nature - The Call for Reconciliation. 

This film is a visual masterpiece by the renowned French filmmaker, Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Presented in the original French version with English subtitles, don't miss this beautiful and moving film on the big screen! 

Save the date and stay tuned to buy your tickets for this evening out, which will include a drink, nibbles, the film, and a Q&A with a special guest speaker
